The Ter Aar Cultural History Museum opened in 2009, designed with an eye for detail by ‘Drost en van Veen architects’, inspired by an authentic farmhouse. On 26 June 2010, the community celebrated the opening of this charming museum. Within this warm and atmospheric setting, the rich history of Ter Aar and its surroundings is presented with care. Discover a collection of agricultural and horticultural artefacts, heirlooms from the peat extraction period and showpieces from the canning industry.
In addition, the museum houses a wealth of knowledge with a library and access to genealogical sources, while a collection of photos and films brings the past to life. Enter this cosy stronghold and let yourself be taken on a fascinating journey through the history of Ter Aar and its surroundings.
