The Chaam brooks meander like silver ribbons through the landscape and flow into the river the Mark. Although much has changed in the surroundings, the brooks still mostly follow their original course. Along the banks nature flourishes and with a bit of luck you might spot a dragonfly or even a kingfisher.
Centuries ago these brooks were notorious obstacles for traders on their way from Breda to Maastricht. Especially in winter it took a lot of effort to cross or find a passable route. Later, in the smuggling years, the brooks provided a handy refuge for smugglers trying to outsmart customs officers.
