Although neighbouring town Moergestel also has the centre of the present-day Benelux, Chaam has the centre of the Benelux according to the maps of 1822. At the time there was a committee that determined in official documents that this roundabout is the geographical heart of the Benelux. The municipality asked artist Berrie Martens to create a work of art for the roundabout in honour of this fact.
