The first documents mentioning this beautiful castle date back to 1307. During the Middle Ages and the Baroque period, it underwent extensive renovations. The magnificent palace garden also dates from this period. In the 19th century, it was redesigned in neo-Gothic style, the spire was raised and the slender corner turrets and knight figures were added.
During the war years, the original furniture and historic rooms were completely lost. The first restoration work began in 1987 and it is now used as a museum.
Moyland is a museum of modern and contemporary art, based on the former private collection of fine and applied art of the Van der Grinten brothers and the works of artist Joseph Beuys.
