Camp Bakhuys-Roozeboom - Rucphen

N 51.517451035047 / E 4.5254361723926

The Bakhuys-Roozeboom camp commemorates commando Bakhuys-Roozeboom who fell during Operation Market Garden near Arnhem in September 1944. This 22-year-old commando was the first Dutch commando killed during combat operations.

On the sign above the entrance, the emblem of the Korps Commandotroepen appears on the left and right with the text: Nunc aut nunquam (Now or never). This is a Latin exhortation to act decisively.

From this tent camp, parts of the physical and mental training of the Elementary Command Training (ECO) take place. Trainees are trained in map reading, speed marches, navigation, survival and shooting. The exhausting training sessions are constantly interrupted by theoretical lessons and sports lessons.
