Broederenkerk - Zutphen

N 52.1425297 / E 6.1950129

The Broederenkerk was built in the 14th century on land which was donated in 1293 by Margaretha van Dampierre to the monks who had settled in Zutphen a few years earlier. The church was built in the Gothic style and the vaults were given beautiful paintings in the 16th century. Little has changed in the church, except that in 1772 a skylight tower was built. The clock hanging in it is still between 9.50 p.m. and 10 p.m. as a warning that the city gates will be closed, although they have not been there since the second half of the 19th century. It now is a library.
