The bird-watching hut that gives you a beautiful view of the Fochteloërveen is inhabited by swallows in the summer months. You can enter quietly, but don't put on your Sunday clothes because the swallows still drop a few... If you keep that in mind, there is a chance of seeing unusual birds: besides cranes, birds of prey fly here. A white-tailed eagle has even been spotted once. But the area is also rich in dragonfly species and reptiles.
