The Binnenveldse Veeneiken is an impressive piece of landscape art. It consists of seven upright bog oaks arranged in a semicircle along the Grift river. These oaks are approximately 7,000 years old and were found during excavation work in 2019. They have been lying under the peat for millennia and are therefore well preserved.
The idea for the artwork came from Rhenen artist Bertus Haverkort. He proposed using the peat oaks found to create a monument that would reflect the history and natural environment of the Binnenveld.
The seven oaks symbolise the seven millennia they are old. The semicircle in which they are placed refers to the bend in the historic river Kromme Eem.
