‘Verleden Veen’ (Peatland Past) brings the hard work in the peat area to life. It is not a literal representation, but evokes the history and hard labour of the Peel. It shows a canal, a shovel, water and a toiling figure - elements that are typical of the Peel and the work that was done there.
The artwork, a monument that has stood in Helenavaart in Helenaveen since 2006, was created by Jan Ros.
