The sculpture depicts a seated woman with full, round shapes, sitting on a mound approximately 35 metres in diameter and 15 to 20 metres high. The mound is littered with fragments of broken brick kilns, farms and former brick factories from the surrounding area, giving the artwork a historical context. The whole structure is built with a steel skeleton and finished with layers of concrete mortar, making it look as if it has been pulled out of the clay.

The sculpture is inspired by fertility images and functions as a primal mother who guards and protects the landscape. A beacon on the river that symbolises the power and fertility of the river landscape. ‘Dijk Van Een Wijf’ was designed by artists Marcelle Hilgers and Lizet Burgersdijk. It was unveiled in 2017.

The sculpture is located in the Gendtse Polder, near the Waal river, and is clearly visible from both the water and the land. The artwork is easily accessible via walking and cycling paths and is a landmark in the landscape.
