In Oosthuizen, North Holland, the De Waterwolf Mini Museum tells the story of the drowned village of Etersheim and the centuries-long battle against the water. You will discover how residents repeatedly built new dykes to protect their land and how that struggle has permanently shaped the landscape.
The museum displays archaeological finds that have literally been dug out of the clay: from simple utensils such as shoes and jugs to unusual objects such as coins, tin and a sarcophagus that turned up off the coast in 2009. The legendary gold treasure of Etersheim is also on display.
In addition to display cases and archaeological finds, there are interactive elements. For example, you can descend a thousand years back in time with a virtual drill. Thanks to augmented reality, you can see more than meets the naked eye. Admission to the mini museum is free.
