A long time ago there was a castle called ‘Huis Berch Eyck’ at this location. During the Eighty Years’ War, the castle was used as one of the many defensive works around Den Bosch. The castle was taken by commander Maurits, but later recaptured by the Spaniards.
After the war, the castle of Bergeijk remained for a long time as a ruin. In the 19th century the moats were filled in and there was nothing left to see of the castle above ground.
A few years ago, however, the outlines of the castle were marked again, making it visible once more. Through a transparent panel on which the castle has been drawn, you can see what it used to look like.
