21. Four polder mills - Leiderdorp
On the left side of the road you see several polder mills. To the left of the Does you first see the Doeshof mill. This is an octagonal smock mill built in 1830 for the drainage of the Huis ter Doespolder. Just behind it lies the wipmolen of the Achthoven polder. This mill was built in 1893.
On the right side of the Does stands the wipmolen of the Munnikkenpolder, established in 1890. These wipmolens replaced their predecessors after they were destroyed by fire.
Behind the Munnikken mill stands the Meerburger mill, originally built in 1684, which stood in the Room or Meerburgerpolder in Zoeterwoude until 2007. That year it was decided to relocate the mill due to construction plans in the area. Since 2014 the octagonal smock mill has been operating in the Munnikkenpolder.
