In 1882 steam pumping station ‘De Volharding’ was completed. It replaced the three mills that previously drained the Reclaimed Grote polder near Stompwijk. The pumping station was designed by J. Goldberg, who was also responsible for the design of the pumping station ‘De Antagonist’, located a little further on.
In 1915 the steam engine was replaced by a suction gas engine. Since 1946 the pumping station ran on an electric motor until it was taken out of operation in 2006.
