World Heritage Rietveld Schröder House - Utrecht

N 52.0853033 / E 5.1475197

The Rietveld Schröder House was put on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2000 and is a highlight of the art movement De Stijl. The house was designed and furnished in 1924 by Utrecht's architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld. He was assigned to do this by the self-willed young Truus Schröder, who lived there from 1925 until she died in 1985. This very first house by Rietveld was an exuberant experiment that has become the representation of modern architecture.

Did you know that early examples of the famous Rietveld zigzag chair were made out of Bruynzeel cupboard shelves?
