World Heritage Amsterdam Canal District - Amsterdam

N 52.364709 / E 4.8922163

The Amsterdam Canal District is a sensation and has been appealing to the imagination for four centuries. The area of no less than 198 hectares was placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2010. Anyone who says ' Canal District' is probably thinking of the three canals that are so easy to mention in alphabetical and topographical order: Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht. But also the Nieuwe Heren Gracht, Keizersgracht, Prinsengracht, the Singel and the seven transverse canals belong to this unique area. The total length of the canals is 14 kilometres, and there are no less than 80 bridges. This enormous urban development project with its characteristic crescent shape makes Amsterdam unique in the world.
