Houthuizer Mill - Lottum

The former Houthuizer Mill dates from the early 1800s. In 1815 a building permit was applied for for the construction of a new windmill. Two years later, the blades were able to turn for the first time. The mill was originally used as a peel mill. In 1901 the mill burned down and was then rebuilt with a second hand hood that was slightly larger than the burned hood. This is how the current rebuilt mill was built.

In 1918 Antoon Clevers had a steam engine placed at the windmill, later followed by a diesel engine. In 1936, his son followed in the footsteps of his father. He was a miller when the Germans blew up his mill on 22 October 1944. The mill was not rebuilt then.

Since May 2009 the rebuilt mill has been in use again. The old foundations were damaged too much to support the new mill. A concrete bucket in the belt, covered with brickwork, was therefore chosen. In the hull more than 90.000 (!) stones are used.
