St. Jans Church Zutphen - Zutphen

N 52.144813 / E 6.1974851

The exact date of the construction of the church is not known but is believed to have taken place around the year 1250. Count Otto the Second founded the church and dedicated it to the Virgin Mary, who was joined a few centuries later by St. Nicholas as the patron saint.

After the invasion of the French, the church was assigned to the Protestants, who did not actually use it. Finally, in 1809, it was reassigned to the Catholics. But by then the church had fallen into serious disrepair. Seven years later the church could be solemnly consecrated again. The last restoration made the church what it is today, exceptionally suitable for celebrations and classical concerts.
