This brick Gothic hall church was built around 1410 on the site of an older church dating from the 12th century. The nave has one nave and on the north side it gives access to an extension, the so-called Sint Maartenskapel. In 1923, a major fire ravaged the church, leaving only the walls standing. The well-known and striking onion-shaped spire from 1631 was also lost. A slightly less slender copy took its place and nowadays it is the beacon of Dwingeloo.
