Old Church Oosterbeek - Oosterbeek

N 51.9779808 / E 5.8378223

On 17 September 1944 Operation Market Garden, better known as the Battle of Arnhem, was launched. The Germans are too strong and on 19 September some 3000 soldiers withdraw to Oosterbeek. For eight days there was heavy fighting over the church and the rectory where the wounded British soldiers were cared for. The church, which was severely damaged during these battles, is therefore one of the symbols around this battle. Now the church is used again for Protestant worship.
