Castle Geldrop - Geldrop

N 51.4250547 / E 5.5594488

It is suspected that the castle was built around 1350. For a long time it belongs to members of the Van Horne family, although they hardly live there, so it is no longer there. Amandus van Horne reverses this decline in 1616 by setting up a stone residential tower. This tower with stepped gables is now the central part of the castle. During the Eighty Years' War, the Catholic Van Horne accommodates the fugitive Bossche bishop Michael Ophovius, friend of the diplomat/painter Peter Paul Rubens. Fifty years after the purchase of Castle Geldrop by Hubertus P. Hoevenaar, a restoration takes place and the garden is landscaped.
