Castle de Schaffelaar - Barneveld

N 52.142583 / E 5.5913131

The history of Estate De Schaffelaar goes back to the sixteenth century, when a castle was located on the Kuwei near Barneveld, which was first called Hackfort and later Schaffelaar. However, both castles were destroyed. On April 1st, 1852, Jasper Hendrik baron van Zuylen van Nievelt laid the first stone of the manor. The Barneveld baron spared no expense for his new home. He had 2.5 million red bricks pressed in and a large amount of marble brought in from Italy. The estate around it was refurbished in 2005 by Het Geldersch Landschap.
