Birch ruin - Zutphen
The city flourished through the Hanseatic League. This led to the merging of the old city and the New City. The old city already has walls, and probably the New City as well, so people wanted a whole based on the existing walls. Two water gates were needed for this: one where the Berkel entered the city and one where the river left the city again. Of those two, only the remains of the first gate are still there.
