Cycle route Ommen adventure
Ommen, Dedemsvaart, Varsen
This beautiful route takes you from Dedemsvaart to the picturesque Hanseatic town of Ommen and back again. Along the way, you cycle through both the Reest Valley and the Vecht Valley, surrounded by lush forests and expansive fields. You follow the junctions where the route takes you through small villages and past farms. In the village of Balkbrug, you’ll find Molen de Star, an old corn mill that is still in operation. This stop gives you the chance to learn more about the craft of milling. Guided tours are given, explaining the history and workings of the mill. Another unique stop along the route: the story point about the border conflicts of Witharen. This is the place where you can learn more about the historical struggle over the border between Overijssel and Drenthe. Through information boards and audio clips, you are taken back to the time of these conflicts, when farmers and landowners were at odds over the exact boundaries.
