Cycle route around the Afferdense duinen

A beautiful cycling route and still time to stop at interesting sights? Then this cycling route is really something for you. During this route you cycle through the Maasduinen, which are divided into several smaller dune areas. For example, you pass the Afferdense duinen, whose name already indicates that it is a dune area near the village of Afferden. On the highest dune in this area there is a lookout tower with a beautiful view over the region. In good weather you can even see Germany. You also pass Kasteel Bleijenbeek, which unfortunately was largely destroyed during the Second World War. The history of this impressive structure began around the 14th century. Like many Dutch castles, it has had several owners over the years, it eventually met its sad end in 1945. The fairytale like ruin can now be seen from the cycle path at the end of the long avenue. Besides dunes, you also pass an area with more water. In nature area Het Quin you will find pools and watery meadows. Quin is another word for quintuplet, and in this area you will indeed find 5 pools, surrounded by a parabolic dune. A parabolic dune has a crescent shape, due to vegetation and wind they have gained this characteristic shape. Close to Het Quin there is a car park where you can easily start the route. Then navigate to Parkeerplaats Het Quin: Nieuw Erfse Kerkweg, 5851 EA in Afferden.
