Thousands of years ago, people already walked on this land. The Romans conquered the land up to the Rhine, and this river became the border between the Roman Empire and the Germanic tribes. A line of watchtowers and army camps was built along the river. In Alphen aan den Rijn, you will cycle past the Archeon, where stories about Roman times come to life. But that's not all: the Middle Ages, Vikings and prehistory will also take you on a journey through time. The Reeuwijkse Plassen lakes are breathtakingly beautiful. The cycle path runs between the lakes, offering beautiful views of birds landing on the water. If you love birds, this is the perfect place to sit on a bench and enjoy the view, which is well worth the detour. You will never be bored in this water-rich area. The cycle paths are beautiful and there are plenty of places to stop along the way to make your day out complete. Gouda is, of course, famous for its delicious Gouda cheese. In addition to the fun cheese stops along the way, you will also pass Museum Gouda, where you can delve deeper into the art and history of the city.
