You cycle for kilometres in the surroundings of the Meuse River. At 950 kilometres, the Meuse is one of the longest rivers in Western Europe, the namesake of the city of Maastricht and an important source of drinking water for many cities and towns in Western Europe. The name De Maas is probably derived from the Celtic Mosã. Nevertheless, today you are going to see a lot of the Meuse and its floodplains. But not just the Meuse, there is more. There are several cosy villages and nature reserves along the Meuse. At Broekhuizen you will find the bicycle monument. Are you curious as to why this monument is here? Then click on the stepping stone and discover the history of this special bicycle. Lottum is mainly known as a rose village; most Dutch roses come from here! In Arcen, you will be enchanted by the beautiful castle gardens. You will also cycle past the cosy village square in Arcen which looks very atmospheric and charming. Don't forget to enjoy the beautiful nature in De Hamert and National Park De Maasduinen? The impressive rolling landscape forms the longest river dune belt in the Netherlands.
