The Bollenstreek, a unique part of the Netherlands, is famous for its flower cultivation on the so-called geestgronden, which are located on the excavated sandy soils behind the dunes. This region is especially known for its stunning flower fields in spring, when the closed flower buds burst open into a spectacle of colours. The fields full of tulips, daffodils and hyacinths form a colourful scene that attracts many visitors every year. This is a beautiful cycle route past these colourful fields, through green lanes and alongside historic estates. Cycling through this varied landscape, full of characteristic canals and ditches and passing the picturesque, lively villages, you’ll experience the charm of this area. But the Bollenstreek is not just worth a visit in spring. In summer and autumn, after the bulb crops have been harvested, summer bloomers and perennials take over. This period provides an entirely new, yet equally impressive, view of the landscape. The fields transform once again and show a diverse palette of colours and shapes, which creates a constant change in scenery. Even in winter, the Bollenstreek is attractive. While nature outside is at rest, beautiful flowers bloom inside the greenhouses. Not only a showcase of horticultural innovation in the region, but also a warm and colourful escape from the cold winter days.
