In the heart of Catholic Brabant stood the Dutch Reformed Church where Reverend Van Gogh once preached. In the vicarage next to it, his son Vincent decided to become an artist. Here he made his very first drawings and paintings. The church still stands today and now bears his name. If you are lucky, you might even hear the organ from 1699 being played during your visit. In the bell tower you can find a special 420 year old clock mechanism on the ground floor, still working to this day. Dive even deeper into the past at the regional museum 't Oude Platteland in Sint Willebrord. Discover how the hardworking farmers of this area lived around the year 1900. Can you imagine their daily life? But Etten Leur also played a role in aviation history. Did you know the first motorised flight on Dutch soil took place here? In 1909, sugar baron Van Voss celebrated the fortieth anniversary of his company with an airshow that lasted six minutes and drew thousands of spectators.
