Cycle route through North Brabant villages
Sint-Oedenrode, Beek en Donk, Lieshout
Cycle through the beautiful Brabant green landscape and swap nature for authentic North Brabant villages. During this route, for example, you will cycle past Sint-Oedenrode, or Papgat (porridge hole). The village got this name because porridge was remarkably common on the menu in the days when the not-so-well-off population often had to make do with this meal. A little further on, you will be introduced to Beek and Donk. These used to be two separate villages, later continuing together as twin villages. Because they were once two separate villages, a green strip still runs through the village. In Lieshout, traces have been found dating back to around 10,000 B.C. When the Wilhelminakanaal was dug in 1917, they came across these traces by accident. This cycle route leads you past beautiful and interesting places and of course you can stop along the way to do or see something. For example, you cycle past as many as three mills with a rich history during this route. Cycling through Sint-Oedenrode, you will pass the Knoptoren, the Antonius van Padua church and the Vresselse Bos. There is plenty to see, and we have thought of the Burgundians too! Parking tip: if you come by car first, you can park in the centre of Mariahout. You start the route at junction 68.
