Cycle route along wetland nature reserves
Rijssen, Wierden
Between Rijssen and Wierden, the Regge forms the heart of a water-rich landscape full of meandering streams, water buffers and wet nature reserves. To prevent flooding and retain clean water, areas such as Waterbuffer Dakhorst and Waterblad de Wendel have been created. These watercourses collect rainwater and slowly release it to the soil. This keeps water levels stable and reduces flood risk. This smart water management also offers plenty of opportunities for nature. Along the banks, reed beds, bulrushes and yellow iris grow, providing rich biodiversity. The area is home to kingfishers, grey herons, dragonflies and even beavers. In the surrounding grasslands and forests, you will encounter plants such as black alder and flowering wood anemones in spring. The area is perfect for a Cycle route along the many waterways and Nature reserves. Cycle along winding paths along the Regge river, through open fields and shady forests. Along the way, enjoy views of water-rich landscapes and pass places where birds and other animals show up.
