Amersfoort, Soest, Nijkerkerveen
The first terraces appeared in Europe in the 19th century. This stemmed from the desire to create restaurants where people could eat and drink in the open air, and enjoy music in the surroundings. Over the century, terraces became increasingly popular, making them a standard part of a city centre today. Good thing, because that brings you a bike ride full of conviviality today! You will cycle through cosy villages in the central Netherlands during this route. Soest is a cosy village with nice restaurants. There are several cafés where you can enjoy a drink and a pleasant evening. From Soest, you cycle to Amersfoort, a lively city. In Amersfoort, you can shop, eat and enjoy the historic city centre. During your route past all the nice places and terraces, you will also come across beautiful sights. Amersfoort is surrounded by many country estates as it is a central location in the middle of the Netherlands. Country estates were used as yachts for the nobility in the 18th and 19th centuries. Part of the local history and culture, they are still a beautiful part of the area with their beautiful landscapes to walk through and enjoy the tranquillity. Various old buildings such as mills and farms pass by. You cycle past Soestdijk Palace, built for Queen Wilhelmina. The palace has a beautiful garden with many different plants and trees. It is a great place to visit and offers a unique view of Dutch history. Add the Pitstops to your itinerary and make a day out of it!
