In this bike route, we've collected five monuments for you that are worth getting off your bike. House Rhijnauwen from the 18th century, for example, although the estate itself is about five centuries older. During a quarrel between the Van Lichtenberg family and the Renesse family, the castle was set on fire. A new house was built after 1450, but it was not until the 18th century that the present structure came into being. In 1804, the French general De Marmont had his soldiers build a copy of the pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Austerlitz, in 27 days as a remedy for boredom. It was built as a tribute to Napoleon's battles in 1805, when he defeated the Austrian armies at the Battle of Austerlitz. At Gimborn, you might think back to the school ink of old. Its manufacturer had an arboretum planted in 1925 that was long part of the botanical gardens of Utrecht University. Korenmolen Rijn en Weert was built in 1882 and after a period of decay has been completely restored since 1994. Castle and manor house Oud-Amelisweerd from the 13th century was destroyed by the French in the disaster year of 1672. In 1770 the present house was built. You pass a number of beautiful places, including Bunnik. This is an old village that has existed for more than 1,000 years. It is a quiet place with a lot of history and the area is suitable for making nice bike rides. The combination of the clean nature of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug and the interesting monuments and historical places provide you with a wonderful varied cycling route.
