This route combines the natural beauty of Utrecht with beautiful historical stops. You will enjoy beautiful views as you cycle along the picturesque Loosdrechtse and Tienhovense Plassen lakes and the winding Vecht river. These water features offer a serene and relaxing environment. You will also pass through the green, wooded area between Hollandsche Rading and Bilthoven. Breathe in the fresh air and experience the tranquillity of the vast countryside. In and around the charming village of Maarssen, beautiful houses were built by wealthy Amsterdammers after the Middle Ages. These stately country estates, such as Geesberge and Goudestein, offer a fascinating glimpse into the past. With all their splendour, it is easy to imagine what life was like here centuries ago. If you enjoy viewing or visiting forts, you will be spoilt for choice on this cycle route! The region is rich in historic forts that form part of the Dutch Defence Line, each with its own unique story and architecture.
