Cycle route Landscape around Lathum

Lathum may not be very big, but in the twelfth century there was already a 'lord of Lathum'. So the village is centuries old. The first time the House of Lathum is mentioned is in 1355. The lords of Lathum lived in this noble house. The oldest parts that have been preserved of the now national monument date from the 15th century. The little church from the 13th century also plays a role for the village. The church is mentioned in the novel 'Knielen op een bed violen' by writer Jan Siebelink, who calls it 'the blue bell tower'. From Lathum you cross the recreational lake the Rhederlaag and the river IJssel to the woods and heaths of the Veluwezoom. Here you can breathe in the wonderful scent of the forest and relax in green surroundings. On the way you will pass the castles of Middachten and Rosendael, both situated in the middle of nature. Fairytale like! Via a number of the many green parks in Arnhem, you cycle towards the IJssel again and cross it with the Westervoortse Brug. Enjoying the riverbeds you cycle the route back to Lathum. A lovely day of cycling with water, woods and history! Note! Along the way, you will encounter a bicycle ferry. It sails daily from April to September. Check the disembarkation time and the website for more information on the sailing schedule. Do you cycle the route when the ferry does not sail? Then detour via junctions 80 (Rheden) - 78 - 88 - 90 - 98 - 26 (Lathum) (or the other way round from the other direction).
