On the route between the beautiful cities of Doesburg and Doetinchem, you spend a large part of the way alongside the Oude IJssel and the IJssel. In the former Hanseatic city of Doesburg, you can visit the mustard factory. Doesburg mustard is popular all over the world. The factory houses a museum where you can learn all about this flavouring. Did you know that Doetinchem also offers extensive shopping and nightlife options? The route takes you past several small villages in Gelderland. One example is Hummelo, the birthplace of the Dutch rock band Normaal. The village is located on an old river dune and already appeared in a charter from the year 828. In Hoog Keppel, a large folk festival is celebrated every year in early September, complete with a small and large shooting guild, banner wavers, axe men, clay pigeon shooters, traditional Dutch games and a six event competition. Alongside history, this route also brings you past plenty of natural beauty. Beautiful forests, green floodplains and of course the flowing water of the rivers. That never fails to impress.
