The Bird Island is in the middle of the Zwarte Meer (black lake), so you can only get there by pedal boat. However, we do not recommend that. You should book an excursion with the forest agent of Natuurmonumenten. Not only because you get a lot more explanation and a greater chance of seeing more birds, but also because otherwise you may disturb the birds. That would be a shame, because you could miss out on bird species such as the bluethroat, large care kite and nightingale.
