Hindersteyn Castle - Langbroek

N 52.0142098 / E 5.3117628

It is not known when Hindersteyn was built, but it is thought to have been around 1300. In that year, Hinder van Wulven founded a house here. Hinder is derived from the name Hendrik, while 'steyn' indicates a stone house. Whether this explanation is correct is not known.

In 1538, the castle received the important recognition as a knight's manor. This gives Hindersteyn all kinds of tax exemptions. In 1682, Mechteld van Reede-van Renswoude and Groenewoude bought the property. Subsequently, in the 18th and 19th centuries it passed from hand to hand, either by inheritance or by sale. When in 1894 Arnold N.J. van Brienen-van de Groote Lindt buys Hindersteyn at an auction as an investment, the property counts 194 hectares. He did not live in the house and it even served as a hay store for some time.

Around 1970, the house and five hectares of land were bought by the current owners. The place is accessible for private groups only.
