Thanks to a dike breach in the 14th century, we can still enjoy the beautiful lake of Sondeler Leijen today. Around the lake you will find a lot of reed and open grassland. The grasslands are flooded in winter (puddle breed). They are a resting area for many birds such as geese and ducks. With a bit of luck you can see a marsh harrier hunting over the open grassland. You will also encounter lapwings and other meadow birds here in the spring.
