Maurick Castle is hidden in nature on a 2.2 hectare island on the River Dommel in Vught. It used to be called Heymhuizing. In 1464, Goossen Heym bought the castle. Since then, many historical events have taken place: when Prince Maurits laid siege to 's-Hertogenbosch in 1601, he took up residence in this castle. Also Frederik Hendrik who besieged the city of 's-Hertogenbosch in 1629 took up residence in the castle.
From 1681, the castle has been in the possession of the van Beresteyn family. They inherited all kinds of rights, such as the right to keep two swans, the fishing right for the fishing grounds there and the right of 't rifle. The castle was bought in 1884 by Augustinus van Lanschot. He used it as a summer residence and had it restored and rebuilt from 1891-1892. His son August, who was mayor of Vught, became the owner and he also used the castle partly as a town hall. After 1963, the castle was sold and has had several managers.
At present, the castle is in use as a restaurant.
